We are Orderly Podcast Episode 2 – What People Think We Do vs What We Actually Do as Professional Organisers in Singapore
When people hear the term Professional Organisers, they often imagine glamorous, Pinterest-worthy homes filled with matching bins and perfectly labelled containers. Thanks to shows like The Home Edit and Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, professional organising can sometimes look picture perfect and effortless on screen — a quick makeover and voilà, everything looks perfect!
But the reality of working as a professional organiser in Singapore is very different — and in this second episode of the We Are Orderly podcast, Rae and Vanessa get real about what actually goes on behind the scenes.
In Singapore, where many of us live in HDB flats or smaller apartments, space is a constant challenge. We talk about how most of our flast don't have the massive walk-in pantries you see on Social Media. Instead, we’re working with small kitchens, tight bomb shelter storage and drawers crammed with multiple brands of sauces, snacks and household items. Our job as home organisation experts in Singapore is less about achieving pinterest perfect spaces and more about creating functional, sustainable organising systems that actually work for each family.
We dive into the emotional side of our work too - helping clients navigate memories, attachments and sometimes even grief associated with their belongings. It's a little like therapy, but with more label makers and organising bins! As professional organisers, we need to be empathetic, non-judgmental, and ready to support clients through the process without getting emotionally overwhelmed ourselves.
